Anonymous Question Submissions Psychology 101 and 114 are a dual credit courses through MiraCosta Community College and Cathedral Catholic High School. Below are brief overviews of each course. Psychology 101 (3 credits - MiraCosta College) / Advanced Psychology (Cathedral Catholic High School) Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental events of humans and non-human animals. This course will provide students with an overview of the study of psychology. The units of the course will include: an introduction to psychology, research methods of psychology, biological psychology, altered states of consciousness, cognitive psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, emotions and stress, personality theory, and applied psychological research. Students will learn about psychology via psychological research and will develop their abilities to analyze that research. No previous knowledge of psychology is required. PDF of the textbook Course Textbook: Psychology from Openstax via Rice University Psychology 114 ( 3 credits - MiraCosta College) / Abnormal Psychology (Cathedral Catholic High School) This course is a comprehensive survey of the troubled patterns of abnormal/dysfunctional behavior. Emphasis is placed on the theoretical models as they relate to assessment, diagnoses, etiology/causes, treatment, and prognosis of psychopathologies. This course is designed for those with an interest in psychology and the study of dysfunctional psychology. Units for this course will include: what is considered dysfunctional psychology, how disorders are studied and classified, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, personality disorders, dissociative disorders, addiction, cognitive disorders, and developmental disorders. Students will also be exposed to what research is showing regarding healthy living, stress management, and ways of coping with dysfunctional behavior or mental experiences. Dysfunctional behavior will be studied through different lenses or perspectives such as: biological/neurological, cognitive, social-cultural, psychodynamic, and humanistic. It is recommended that students take Psychology 101 prior to taking this course. |
