Going through bouts of sadness, anxiety, and other negative emotions are complete normal! Stress is also a major part of modern life. Recent research also suggests that teens are even more stressed than adults! So expect some challenging times. Of course there are those times when we just need some help! The great news is, there IS help out there and it works!
Start Simple!
When you are going through emotionally challenging times, keep in mind the simple things that make for emotional and physical well being: slowing things down (taking a break and getting rest), using your support network: family and friends, a healthy diet, and getting regular exercise/being active in some way. Research also shows that doing pro-social works (helping others in some way), also helps increase happiness!
Dealing with anxiety and/or depression
Research has shown that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the leading method of helping people tackle and gain control over their depression and anxiety. There are many resources out there and many you can apply pretty easily in your own life! As far as I am concerned, we ALL could use some CBT in our lives, me included!
